Synopsis

Imagine a zombie apocalypse, but instead of the undead, the threat is cats. Adorable, fluffy cats. Touch one and you become a cat yourself. That's the Nyandemic, and it's wiping out humanity one head pat at a time. Kunagi is a guy with zero memories of his past who happens to work at a cat café — which is about the worst possible place to be when every feline on Earth becomes a biological weapon. When the outbreak hits mid-shift, he bolts alongside the café's siblings Gaku and Kaoru, plus an unlucky customer named Tanishi. Now they're navigating a world where the cutest creatures alive are the most dangerous, and the hardest part of surviving isn't finding food or shelter — it's resisting the overwhelming urge to pet the damn cats. The tone here walks a weird line between genuine horror tension and dark comedy that actually lands. There are real cat facts sprinkled throughout the episodes, which somehow makes the whole thing funnier and creepier. The soundtrack goes unexpectedly hard too — thrash metal featuring Marty Friedman from Megadeth on the opening theme, which is a sentence I never expected to write about a cat anime. If you liked the apocalypse-but-make-it-fun energy of Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead or the survival horror comedy of Shaun of the Dead, this 12-episode TV series from OLM hits that same sweet spot. It's dumb in the best way, and dark when you least expect it.

Nyaight of the Living Cat offers a refreshingly different kind of “apoCATlyptic” story. Its exaggerated voice acting and expressive animation enhance the comedy. While visuals aren’t the main highlight, the sharp timing and absurd delivery make it consistently entertaining.
