Noblesse
Oshimeter
Synopsis
After 820 years of slumber, the ancient Noblesse known as Rai wakes up and has no idea how a smartphone works. That's the kind of energy this show has. Rai is essentially vampire royalty — a "Noblesse" — with god-tier power and zero understanding of modern life. His loyal servant Frankenstein (yes, that Frankenstein, more or less) has been running a high school this whole time, so naturally Rai enrolls as a student. He makes friends, struggles with ramen etiquette, and tries to blend in despite radiating ancient nobility from every pore. But a shadowy organization called the Union is hunting him, and when they come after his classmates, the elegant, soft-spoken Rai drops the act and reminds everyone why he slept unbothered for eight centuries. This is a 13-episode TV series from Production I.G, based on a popular web manga, and it does a solid job balancing chill school comedy with genuinely cool supernatural fights. The noble hierarchy and power dynamics give it more depth than you'd expect. If you liked the aesthetic of Black Butler or the vampire politics in Vampire Knight, this scratches a similar itch but with a more modern setting. Fans of Hellsing will appreciate the power scaling and the "don't mess with the quiet one" energy. Fair warning though — watching the OVA prequel first helps, since the show drops you in assuming you know the basics.
