📖 SYNOPSIS
On the streets of a fantasy kingdom, Nina is just another orphan picking pockets and stealing bread when her best friend sells her out to a prince — not out of cruelty, but because Nina has these rare deep-blue eyes that match a dead princess. See, the kingdom's Astral Priestess just died on her way to a political marriage with a neighboring kingdom, and Second Prince Azure needs a body double before everything falls apart diplomatically. So Nina, who yesterday was picking pockets, is now learning court etiquette, pretending to be royalty, and preparing for a marriage to a king she's never met. The setup alone has layers — there's the tension of maintaining a false identity, the slow-burn dynamic between Nina and Azure as he coaches her through this impossible role, and the constant threat of getting caught in a lie that could start a war. The court politics here feel grounded rather than decorative; people have competing agendas and Nina has to navigate all of it with zero formal education. If you liked the palace intrigue of Saiunkoku Monogatari or the way Akagami no Shirayuki-hime builds its romance through mutual respect rather than melodrama, this hits a similar note. It's a josei adaptation, so the character writing skews more mature and the romance develops with actual patience. Signal.MD put together some genuinely beautiful animation for the fantasy setting, and at 12 episodes it doesn't overstay its welcome. A solid pick if you want something romantic with real stakes underneath.
