Synopsis

In this world, monsters have always been real, and they're running the show. Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge is a 4-episode OVA from Madhouse that drops you into a world where vampires, werewolves, zombies, and stranger things all exist out in the open — not hiding in shadows, just living their lives and fighting each other for dominance. It's chaotic and weird in the best way. The Darkstalkers each have their own goals, grudges, and storylines running in parallel, so it never feels like a single straightforward hero's journey. Then an army of ancient Aztec robots decides humanity isn't worth protecting, and suddenly everyone has a bigger problem than their petty rivalries. The action is genuinely brutal and creative — each character fights completely differently, which makes sense since this is based on Capcom's cult classic fighting game. But the OVA format gives the story room to slow down and actually develop these characters beyond their fighting game archetypes. There's real emotional weight here, especially when characters are forced to confront what they actually want versus what they're fighting for. The art has that late-90s Madhouse texture — detailed, moody, and expressive. If you liked Hellsing for its monster-on-monster violence or Trinity Blood for the gothic political chaos, this scratches a similar itch. It's not a long commitment, and it rewards fans of dark fantasy action that takes its strange world seriously.
