📖 SYNOPSIS
Headed to Tokyo on completely different missions, two women who share the name Nana end up on the same train seat and eventually in the same apartment. That's the setup, and it sounds simple, but this show will quietly wreck you. Nana Komatsu — nicknamed Hachi — is a hopeless romantic who keeps falling for the wrong guys and chasing the idea of love more than love itself. Nana Osaki is a punk rock vocalist with sharp eyeliner and sharper walls around her heart, grinding to make it big with her band. They shouldn't work as friends, but they do, and watching their bond deepen while their individual lives get messier is the real core of this 47-episode TV series. Madhouse adapted the manga with care — the pacing is deliberate, the emotions hit hard, and the soundtrack featuring Anna Tsuchiya and Olivia Lufkin genuinely slaps. The music scenes feel earned, not decorative. What sets Nana apart is how honestly it treats adult relationships. People here make selfish choices, get hurt, hurt others, and keep going. Nobody gets a free pass because they're likable. If you liked Paradise Kiss for its fashion-world drama and messy romance, or Honey and Clover for its bittersweet exploration of young adulthood, this is in that same lane but arguably hits even harder. It's romantic and emotional without being naive about what love actually costs people. Fair warning: the manga went on hiatus and never finished, and the anime reflects that unresolved feeling. But the journey is worth sitting with.
