Synopsis

Miyo Saimori has never known anything but being treated like a servant in her own home. After her mother died, her father remarried, and her new stepmother and half-sister made sure Miyo knew she was worthless. No love, no respect, not even basic dignity. Then her father announces she's being married off to Kiyoka Kudou — a man so cold and intimidating that every previous fiancée has fled. Miyo expects more of the same misery, just in a different house. Except Kiyoka isn't what the rumors suggest. He's stern, sure, but there's a quiet kindness underneath, and watching Miyo slowly realize that someone might actually care about her is the kind of thing that will wreck you emotionally in the best way. This is a 12-episode TV series set in an alternate Taisho-era Japan where noble families pass down supernatural abilities, and Miyo — who inherited none — carries that shame on top of everything else. Kinema Citrus nails the historical aesthetic, and Evan Call's soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting during the quieter, more devastating moments. The pacing is slow and deliberate, more about small gestures and earned trust than grand declarations. If you liked the emotional healing arcs in Fruits Basket, or the gentle warmth of Snow White with the Red Hair, or if Violet Evergarden taught you that quiet stories can hit harder than loud ones — this belongs on your list. It's romantic without being saccharine, and genuinely moving without ever feeling manipulative.

There's a lot going on in this episode. Finally showing the backstory of Sumi and Miyo, on how Miyo ended up as who she is now. The intense battlegrounds of Kiyoka's squad and also the sudden shift of decisions from Arata and Miyo's grandfather. This was a chaotic episode.

An emotional episode. Miyo's slow character development and Kiyoka's work-related issues made their connection a subtle change. The pace slowed down with how Miyo was struggling to express her own concerns while the plot deepens with what Arata is holding them back with.

With the dark driving force and the suspenseful narrative setup, the plot thickens into more of a fantasy and thrilling episode. Arata's arrival changed the pace and tone into an intriguing story that is connected to the Usuba. Kiyoka's power in that eerie setting was great.
