When a girl confesses her love to her crush, a manga artist, he mistakes it for a job application, leading to a hilarious and one-sided romance.

📖 SYNOPSIS

After months of pining, Chiyo Sakura finally works up the courage to confess her feelings to her tall, stoic classmate Umetarou Nozaki. He responds by handing her an autograph. Turns out the guy is secretly a published shoujo manga artist, and he thinks she's just a fan. This misunderstanding snowballs into Chiyo becoming his manga assistant, which is both the best and worst thing that could happen to her — she gets to spend time with her crush, but this dude is so dense about real romance that it's almost impressive.

What makes this 12-episode TV series work is how it uses the manga-creation setup to parody every shoujo trope you've ever seen. Nozaki mines his friends' lives for material but constantly misreads the romantic dynamics around him, leading to situations where the most dramatic love story clichés get turned inside out. The supporting cast is genuinely strong — Mikoto Mikoshiba talks a big flirtatious game but crumbles from embarrassment seconds later, and Yuu Kashima is a girl so princely that she has a fanclub of swooning female classmates. Everyone plays off each other well, and Doga Kobo's comedic timing is sharp throughout.

If you liked the ensemble energy of Ouran High School Host Club or the romantic comedy rhythm of Kaichō wa Maid-sama, this hits a similar sweet spot. It's more comedy than romance, though — the laughs come from how oblivious everyone is to what's right in front of them. Light, funny, and surprisingly clever about the genre it's poking fun at.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You love sharp parody of shoujo manga tropes — this show skewers every single one
Doga Kobo's expressive animation and snappy comedic timing are exactly your thing
You want a quirky ensemble cast where every side character pairing steals scenes
A breezy 12-episode comedy with zero filler sounds like the perfect palette cleanser

❌ SKIP IF...

You're expecting real romantic payoff between Chiyo and Nozaki — it barely moves forward
Episodic 4-koma-style humor with loosely connected sketches feels too disjointed for you
You're unfamiliar with shoujo conventions — half the jokes won't land without that context
