Mobile Police Patlabor: The New Files
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Giant construction robots called Labors are everywhere in near-future Tokyo — on building sites, in warehouses, operated by regular workers on regular shifts. Naturally, the police need their own robots to deal with when those Labors go wrong. That's where Special Vehicles Division 2 comes in: a scrappy unit of cops piloting Ingram patrol mechs, led by the quietly scheming Captain Goto, whose leadership style involves saying very little and letting chaos sort itself out. The star pilot is Noa Izumi, who named her Ingram like a pet and is genuinely more attached to it than most people are to their cars. Her partner Asuma is the straight man trying to keep everything from going sideways. This 16-episode OVA picks up where the original series left off, and it leans hard into the workplace comedy side of things — a lot of it is just these people being weird together, dealing with office politics, ghost stories, and the occasional rogue Labor causing property damage. The mecha stuff is grounded and unglamorous, which is part of the appeal. These aren't heroes saving the world; they're civil servants with giant robots and mediocre paperwork. If you liked the dry humor and lived-in world of the original Patlabor: The Mobile Police OVA, this continues that energy. Fans of Dominion or other early 90s sci-fi comedies with adult casts will find familiar territory here. It's low-stakes, character-driven, and genuinely funny without ever trying too hard.
