Set against the backdrop of historical Kyoto, "Mirage of Blaze: Rebels of the River Edge" follows Takaya's mission to investigate the resurgence of the dangerous Ikko sect and the defector Araki Murashige. His investigation leads him to a significant 400-year-old mandala, a Buddhist artifact, crafted from the hair of deceased Araki clansmen. Accompanied by his loyal vassal, Haruie, Takaya's quest takes an unexpected turn when Haruie recognizes Araki as Shintarou, her lover from a past life. This revelation creates a powerful internal conflict for Haruie as she grapples with her duty to eliminate Araki, who poses a considerable threat, and her deeply personal connection to him.
