Migi & Dali
Oshimeter
Synopsis
A pair of identical twins pretend to be one kid. That's the setup for Migi & Dali, and it's way weirder and more gripping than it sounds. Migi and Dali are 13-year-old orphans who disguise themselves as a single child named "Hitori" to get adopted by the Sonoyamas, a wealthy elderly couple living in the seemingly idyllic Origon Village. But this isn't some heartwarming adoption story — the twins have an agenda. They're using their new family as a way into the village to investigate a dark incident from their past. The comedy comes from watching these two boys physically stack on top of each other, swap places mid-conversation, and maintain this absurd illusion while everyone around them is none the wiser. It's genuinely funny in a deadpan, surreal way. But underneath all the slapstick twin logistics, there's a real mystery unfolding, and the tone shifts gradually from quirky to unsettling as the village reveals its secrets. The art style leans into this duality — bright and pleasant on the surface, with something slightly off lurking beneath. If you liked the orphan-driven suspense of The Promised Neverland or the small-town mystery vibe of Erased, this scratches a similar itch but with a comedic edge those shows don't have. It's a 13-episode TV series based on a seinen manga, so it's tight and doesn't overstay its welcome. One of the more uniquely toned shows from 2023.
