Synopsis

All Ichigo Momomiya wants is to get through her date without embarrassing herself, but after dozing off at an endangered species exhibit, she wakes up craving fish and doing things that are... distinctly cat-like. When a monster attacks her crush Masaya, she discovers why: she's been fused with the DNA of an Iriomote wildcat and can now transform into a cat-eared magical girl named Mew Ichigo. From there, she gets pulled into a secret operation run by two researchers who've done the same thing to four other girls, each carrying the DNA of a different endangered animal. Together they're the Mew Mews, and their job is to defend Earth from alien invaders who want the planet back for themselves. Running 52 episodes and animated by Studio Pierrot, it's a light, fun magical girl series with a genuine environmental thread woven through it — the endangered species angle isn't just window dressing, it actually shapes the characters and their designs in ways that feel intentional. The romance between Ichigo and Masaya runs alongside the action without overtaking it, which keeps things balanced. If you grew up with Sailor Moon or loved Shugo Chara!, this fits comfortably in that same space. Fans of Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch will also feel right at home with the tone. It's warm, colorful, and easy to settle into.
