Driven by shared dreams and unwavering determination, a disillusioned coach and a young girl forge an unlikely partnership to conquer the world of figure skating.

📖 SYNOPSIS

All Tsukasa Akeuraji ever wanted was one thing — to be a competitive figure skater — but he started too late and life moved on without him. Now he's broke, taking an assistant coaching gig, and basically running on fumes. Then he meets Inori, a quiet fifth-grader who sneaks into the rink to practice because her mom won't let her skate — partly because Inori's older sister already tried and failed. Two people held back by the same thing: starting too late, being told it's too late. So naturally, they team up to prove everyone wrong.

What makes Medalist hit different is how grounded it feels. This isn't a flashy sports anime where talent solves everything. It's about a kid fighting through self-doubt and family pressure, and a washed-up adult finding purpose through someone else's dream. The emotional beats land hard, and the show earns every one of them. The figure skating sequences are genuinely gorgeous too — they brought in real professional skaters like Akiko Suzuki for the choreography, and you can tell. ENGI put real care into making the performances feel alive on screen.

If you liked the raw emotion of Yuri!!! on Ice or the way Run with the Wind made you care deeply about every single character's personal struggle, this is in that same lane. Welcome to the Ballroom fans will also recognize that mentor-student energy. It's a 13-episode TV series based on a seinen manga, and the pacing is tight. Bring tissues.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You love mentor-student dynamics—Tsukasa and Inori's bond drives all 13 episodes
Motion-captured skating sequences from real pros make the on-ice scenes genuinely impressive
Underdog stories hit hard for you—a shy fifth grader fighting self-doubt is the core arc
You want a sports drama that prioritizes emotional depth over flashy tournament action

❌ SKIP IF...

You need fast-paced action—training fundamentals and slow character growth fill most episodes
ENGI's standard 2D animation outside skating scenes feels flat and uninspired to you
You're expecting romance subplots—this is purely about athletic and personal development
