Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!
Oshimeter
Synopsis
You know the types — the childhood friend, the energetic athlete, the quiet bookworm — who clearly likes the main guy but never wins. Make Heroine ga Oosugiru is basically a show about what happens to those girls after they lose. Kazuhiko Nukumizu is a self-proclaimed background character, a first-year high school introvert who's perfectly fine staying invisible. That plan falls apart when he accidentally witnesses his popular classmate Anna Yanami getting rejected by her childhood friend. Instead of walking away, he somehow becomes her emotional support system, and before long, other girls who've caught similar Ls in love start gravitating toward him too — Lemon Yakishio, an upbeat track athlete, and Chika Komari, a shy literature club member. The comedy hits naturally because Nukumizu genuinely does not want to be involved in any of this, but he's too decent a person to just bail. A-1 Pictures handles the 12-episode TV series with solid production, and the writing nails the balance between funny and surprisingly tender. It never goes full melodrama, but there are moments that land harder than you'd expect from the premise. If you liked the sharp social commentary of Oregairu or the character dynamics in Saekano, this scratches a similar itch while doing its own thing. It's a rom-com that's less about who wins the guy and more about what losing teaches you about yourself.
