Magic User's Club OVA
Oshimeter
Synopsis
What if the aliens who arrived on Earth were... polite. They follow traffic laws, don't bother anyone, and just kind of float around observing things. Nobody knows what they want, and that's unsettling enough that the world is on edge. Enter the Kitanohashi High School Magic Club — a small group of students who can actually do real magic, badly, and have decided this alien situation is their problem to solve. Their leader Takeo is earnest to a fault, Sae is shy but genuinely talented, and the rest of the club rounds out into a chaotic little found-family that bickers, practices spells in secret, and somehow keeps moving forward despite being in way over their heads. The early episodes are mostly about them fumbling through magic practice and figuring out how to even approach something as absurd as alien robots with wands and good intentions. It's warm and funny without trying too hard, and the romance between characters simmers quietly underneath everything. The 90s animation has that specific hand-drawn softness that's hard to replicate now. If you grew up with Little Witch Academia or Ojamajo Doremi and want something that blends that cozy magical-school energy with a genuinely weird sci-fi premise, this scratches a particular itch. It's a 6-episode OVA, so the commitment is low and the charm is high. Good for a slow afternoon.
