A lone student desperately tries to save his school's koto club, a traditional Japanese music club, from being shut down by recruiting new members.

📖 SYNOPSIS

Known as the school's biggest delinquent, Chika Kudou raises eyebrows when he walks into the nearly-dead koto club wanting to join, and the lone remaining member Takezou isn't exactly thrilled. But Chika's not there to cause trouble — his grandfather was a koto craftsman, and learning to play is the only way he knows to honor the man he lost. Then there's Satowa Houzuki, a koto prodigy carrying her own baggage, who rounds out this unlikely group of misfits trying to keep their club from being shut down. What starts as a scramble for enough members to survive becomes something deeper as they push toward a national competition together. This is a 13-episode TV series that nails the thing music anime live or die by: making you feel the performances. The koto is a traditional Japanese instrument most people haven't heard much of, and the show uses that unfamiliarity to its advantage — every piece hits with genuine weight because you're discovering the music alongside the characters. The character writing is where it really shines, though. Everyone in this club is working through something, and the growth feels earned rather than rushed. If you liked the emotional gut punches in Your Lie in April, the team dynamics of Sound! Euphonium, or the competitive spirit of Chihayafuru built around a niche Japanese art form, this one's in that lane. Quiet, emotional, and surprisingly gripping once it gets its hooks in you.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You're into music-driven dramas where traditional koto performances carry real emotional weight
Redemption arcs hit hard for you—Chika's journey from delinquent to dedicated club member is the core
You enjoy underdog club stories where misfits slowly bond and build something together over 13 episodes
Character backstories matter more to you than flashy animation or fast-paced plotting

❌ SKIP IF...

Platinum Vision's inconsistent animation quality—especially early episodes lacking koto scenes—will bug you
You'd rather read the manga, which handles emotional beats and art with more nuance than this adaptation
You want action or plot twists—this is a slow-burn school drama about friendships and personal growth
