Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast for Spirits- 2
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Aoi Tsubaki has always found her ability to see spirits more curse than gift — but things get worse when she finds out her dead grandfather promised her hand in marriage to an ogre-god to cover his debts. Instead of going along with it, she decides to cook her way out of the arrangement by working at a grand inn in the spirit world. This second season picks up that thread and keeps pulling. Aoi is still at the Tenjin-ya inn, still making gorgeous traditional Japanese food for ayakashi guests, and still figuring out where she stands with Odanna, the inn's mysterious master who seems content to wait her out. Ginji, the nine-tailed fox with a gentle streak, is back too, and the show digs deeper into the politics and culture of the Hidden Realm across these 12 episodes. What makes this work is the balance — there's genuine romantic tension, but it never rushes. The food sequences are detailed and warm, almost meditative. And the ayakashi world feels lived-in, drawing heavily on Japanese mythology without over-explaining everything. If you liked the quiet emotional pull of Natsume's Book of Friends, or the slow-burn dynamic between leads in Spice and Wolf, this hits a similar note. Fans of The Morose Mononokean will find familiar ground in the human-among-spirits setup. It's a gentle, romantic fantasy that earns its emotional moments through patience and good cooking.
