Synopsis

Tagging along on what should be a routine job, apprentice bounty hunter Iria sets out to investigate a missing spaceship, figure out what happened to the crew, and get paid. Her brother Gren is the experienced one, so how dangerous could it really be. Then they board the Karma and find Zeiram. Zeiram is an alien that cannot be stopped. Not slowed down, not reasoned with, not outrun. The opening episodes establish this fast and without mercy, and suddenly Iria is back on her home planet of Myce, grieving, injured, and realizing that a megacorporation called Tedan Tippedai knew exactly what was on that ship — and wants it back. The story grows from there into a corporate conspiracy wrapped around one woman's vendetta against something that probably should not exist. It is a 6-episode OVA from 1994, so it moves efficiently. No filler, no padding. The animation holds up well for its era — fluid action, detailed backgrounds, a genuinely lived-in sci-fi world that never stops to explain itself. If you liked Battle Angel Alita's gritty future aesthetic or the tense creature-versus-hunter energy of Black Magic M-66, this fits right alongside them. Fans of Spriggan's hard-edged action will also find something familiar here. The tone is serious without being bleak, and Iria herself is a protagonist worth spending six episodes with.
