EPISODE CONTEXT
Coming off Episode 98's more emotionally charged scenario between Kikyo and Kagome, Episode 99 downshifts into filler territory, stepping away from the central Naraku storyline. It functions as a breather episode before Episode 100, 'Truth Behind the Nightmare: Battle in the Forest of Sorrow,' which pivots back toward more consequential events. Sitting at roughly the 60% mark of the full 167-episode run, this is deep in InuYasha's middle stretch where filler episodes are frequent between major arc beats.
