Synopsis

Born into a long line of Inukami tamers — people who form contracts with powerful spirit beings to fight supernatural threats — Keita Kawahira has one glaring problem: zero talent for it. His family basically gave up on him, and he's been floating around without a partner while his cousins do the actual work. Then Yōko shows up. She's beautiful, composed, and somehow willing to contract with him — which seems like a lucky break right up until she starts teleporting him into embarrassing situations for fun and ignoring half his instructions entirely. She's not broken, just completely uninterested in being controlled. The two of them stumble through a contemporary Japan where folklore and everyday life overlap, getting tangled in supernatural incidents that Keita would really rather avoid. The humor leans heavily on the tension between Keita's laziness and Yōko's chaotic loyalty — she clearly cares about him, but she expresses it in ways that routinely make his life worse. It's the kind of dynamic that fans of Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens or Ah! My Goddess will recognize immediately, though Inukami runs warmer and messier than either. The folklore angle is genuinely charming — Yōko's design pulls from fox spirit traditions rather than the standard dog imagery, and the soundtrack mixes traditional Japanese instrumentation with something more playful. If you liked the bickering-but-devoted-partners setup from Midori Days and want it wrapped in supernatural comedy, this 26-episode TV series from 2006 is a comfortable fit.
