If I See You in My Dreams
Oshimeter
Synopsis
At 24 years old, Masuo Fuguno has never had a girlfriend, and a fortune teller just told him he never will. Then he meets Nagisa, a kindergarten teacher, and decides the fortune teller can get lost. That's the setup, and it's a genuinely charming one. Masuo is the kind of guy who means well but stumbles over himself constantly — his awkwardness isn't played for cringe so much as for warmth, which makes rooting for him feel natural. Making things messier, his coworker Miho is openly interested in him while he's busy fixating on someone who barely knows he exists. Classic love triangle, but grounded in the kind of adult working life that most romance anime skip past entirely. The characters are in their twenties, holding down jobs, navigating real social anxiety — it's a refreshing change from high school settings. Each episode runs around seven minutes, so the whole TV series moves quickly without overstaying its welcome. If you enjoyed the quiet domestic warmth of Ai Yori Aoshi or the earnest romantic tension in Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo, this scratches a similar itch. It's a 1998 J.C.Staff production, so temper your expectations on animation, but the writing has a steady emotional honesty to it. Not flashy, not dramatic — just a guy trying his best and slowly figuring out what he actually wants.
