📖 SYNOPSIS
Thrown together by a small talent agency with zero say in the matter, seven wildly different personalities get told to become the next big idol group. That's the setup for IDOLiSH7: First Beat, a two-part movie compilation that condenses the first season into a tighter, more cinematic experience. You've got Riku Nanase, the energetic center with more heart than sense, Iori Izumi, the calculating perfectionist, and five other guys who each bring their own baggage and charm to the table. The early tension isn't really about the music — it's about whether these seven can stop clashing long enough to actually function as a unit, especially when the established rival group TRIGGER is already setting the bar impossibly high.
What makes this work where a lot of idol anime fall flat is how much time it spends on the characters as people. Their insecurities, their personal histories, the friction between them — it all feels grounded in a way that gives the performances actual emotional weight. TROYCA's animation is clean and expressive, and the soundtrack hits harder knowing the voice cast is performing it themselves.
If you liked Uta no Prince-sama but wanted something with more dramatic depth, or if Ensemble Stars left you wanting stronger character writing, this is the one to pick up. The emotional tone is earnest without being saccharine, and the compilation format means you get the core story without the filler. A solid entry point if you've been curious about the franchise.
