Synopsis
Working out of a handmade perfume studio, Rumi spends her days crafting fragrances — already a pretty unique setup for a magical girl show. One evening, a mysterious black mist crosses her path, and she ends up meeting a talking black cat who claims to be from a planet called Flowernu. Turns out Rumi has a family heirloom called the Flower Key that lets her transform into a Flower Child — and now she's been tasked with finding the scattered petals of the Rainbow Flower, which have been corrupted by dark magic. Each petal is tied to the darkness in someone's heart, so the whole journey is less about fighting monsters and more about emotional healing, which gives it a quieter, more personal feel than you might expect. The perfume-making angle actually weaves into the story in a cool way — it's not just set dressing. This ONA is a sequel to the 1979 classic Hana no Ko Lunlun, updated through a collaboration blending Japanese and Chinese animation styles via Wawayu Animation. If you liked the collect-and-purify structure of Cardcaptor Sakura or the emotional core of Shugo Chara, this hits a similar vein. It's also got that early Sailor Moon energy where the protagonist is still figuring out her powers and stumbling through it. The tone leans emotional and reflective rather than action-heavy, so come in expecting a story about growth and connection, not flashy battle sequences.
