Honey and Clover Specials

For those who watched Honey and Clover and wished they could spend more time with the side characters, these two short specials are exactly that. Set in the same art college world you already know, the focus shifts away from the main cast and onto some of the odder personalities lurking at the edges — specifically Lohmeyer-senpai, the eccentric upperclassman whose strange energy always made you wonder what's actually going on in his head, and Miwako, who dedicates her considerable creativity to finding new ways to mess with Yamazaki. Neither special is trying to push a dramatic storyline forward. They're small, character-driven slices of art college life — the kind of low-stakes moments that make a world feel real rather than just a backdrop for plot. The humor is dry and specific to these people, and the drama is quiet in that way Honey and Clover does better than almost anything else. If you liked Nodame Cantabile's portrait of creative students fumbling through life, or the grounded emotional texture of 3-gatsu no Lion, you'll recognize the same sensibility here. It's only two episodes, so it doesn't ask much of you. Think of it less as essential viewing and more as a reward for people who already got attached to this world and want to linger in it a little longer before leaving.
