Hokuto no Ken: Kenougun Zako-tachi no Banka
Oshimeter
Synopsis
All those Fist of the North Star villains who ever screamed "HIDEBU" before exploding had a life before that moment. This show is about those guys. Nobu is a young man trying to find work in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, which is already rough enough. Then he gets lured into Raoh's army by a job listing promising three meals a day and easy labor — basically the dystopian equivalent of a Craigslist scam. What follows is a 12-episode comedy about being the lowest rung on the ladder in the most dangerous organization in the wasteland, surrounded by fellow henchmen who are somehow even less qualified than he is. The series has a unique visual style too, using an "Animatica" technique that blends traditional animation with motion comic elements, giving it a look that fits the absurdist tone. It's less about epic martial arts showdowns and more about the mundane indignities of being a nameless grunt who could get one-punched by Kenshiro at any moment. If you liked the way Gintama finds comedy in the margins of a bigger world, or how One Punch Man treats villains and side characters as punchlines to an existential joke, this hits a similar frequency. It's a parody that clearly loves its source material but asks the one question nobody bothered with: what's the dental plan like in Raoh's army?
