Synopsis

When a boy discovers a pair of broken scissors among his late father's belongings, everything changes. That's it — that's the starting point. But what unfolds from there is a quiet, gorgeous little journey across a parallel world that feels like nothing else airing right now. Hizukuri is a single ONA episode about grief, craftsmanship, and the small objects that carry someone's entire life in them. The boy learns his father was once a gardener, and these scissors were made by an artisan named Sasuke, living in some distant foreign land. So he sets out to get them fixed. Not to save the world, not to fight anyone — just to restore something his dad cared about. There's something really grounding about that. The animation style is this distinctive 2D CG look that gives the whole thing a handcrafted texture, which fits perfectly for a story about artisans and the things they make. The soundtrack by UQiYO adds this contemplative, drifting quality to the journey. And the fact that this was crowdfunded — independent creators bringing an original story to life — makes it feel personal in a way studio productions sometimes don't. If you've vibed with short-form indie anime like Happening Star ✩ or the adventurous spirit of Taiga Daibouken, this sits in that same space. It's a small story told with real care, and sometimes that's exactly what you need.
