Hetalia Axis Powers
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Picture every country on Earth as a person — that's it, that's the concept — and it works way better than it has any right to. Hetalia Axis Powers is a 52-episode ONA where nations are anthropomorphized into characters built entirely around national stereotypes and cultural quirks, then dropped into historical scenarios played for laughs. Germany is an uptight, hyper-disciplined guy who somehow ends up allied with North Italy, a cheerful coward obsessed with pasta who Germany literally finds hiding in a crate of tomatoes during World War I. Japan rounds out the trio as the quiet, reliable one with deeply specific hobbies nobody else understands. The whole thing is set against the backdrop of the World Wars, but the tone is pure comedy — think less history lecture, more absurd sketch show where the punchlines come from centuries of cultural baggage. Each episode is only about five minutes long, so it's the kind of thing you put on and suddenly you've watched twenty episodes without noticing. The humor leans heavy on stereotypes and gag comedy, so if that's your thing, you'll get a lot out of it. If you enjoyed the expanded seasons like Hetalia: World Series or Hetalia: The Beautiful World, this is where it all started. It's a weird little show from Studio Deen that somehow makes world history feel like a sitcom about terrible roommates who happen to be superpowers.
