Hello World
Oshimeter
Synopsis
In a near-future Kyoto, book-loving high schooler Naomi Katagaki can't work up the nerve to talk to Ruri Ichigyō, the girl in his class who shares his love of reading but keeps everyone at arm's length with her blunt personality. Then one day a mysterious man appears claiming to be Naomi's future self from ten years ahead — and he's not here for a casual visit. Future Naomi tells him that Ruri is going to suffer a terrible accident, and the only way to prevent it is for present-day Naomi to get close to her now and change the timeline. What starts as an awkward teenage crush quickly becomes a desperate race against fate, layered with sci-fi twists that genuinely keep you guessing. The whole movie has this bittersweet, emotional pull where the romance and the time-travel mystery feed into each other really well. Graphinica's blend of 3D CGI and traditional animation gives Kyoto this gorgeous, slightly surreal look that fits the story's tone perfectly. If you liked the emotional gut-punch of Your Name or the time-bending tension of Steins;Gate, this hits a similar sweet spot. It also carries some of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time's wistful energy — that feeling of trying to hold onto something you know might slip away. It's a single movie, so it's an easy watch for a night when you want something romantic but with real narrative weight behind it.
