EPISODE CONTEXT
Following episode 8's 'Fleeting Dreams,' which began exposing internal fractures within the Shinsengumi, 'The Trails of Carnage' deepens those rifts and forces characters — especially Chizuru — into confronting revelations they can no longer avoid. As episode 9 of 12, this is the season's pivot point, where personal decisions crystallize into consequences. It directly sets the stage for 'Where the Bonds Lead,' where the fallout from these choices accelerates toward the finale.
