Synopsis
Mafuyu Satou is a boy shattered by his mother's death and a devastating personal loss, barely able to string words together — let alone sing. But the TV series changed that, and this movie picks up right where it left off. The band Given has made it to the final round of an amateur music contest, but they've only got one original song. That's a problem. Mafuyu wants to dig deeper into songwriting, and help comes from an unexpected place: Ugetsu Murata, a classically trained violinist who also happens to be drummer Akihiko's complicated ex. This is where the movie really shifts focus. While the TV series centered on Ritsuka and Mafuyu's slow-burn connection, the film dives into the messy, painful love triangle between Akihiko, Ugetsu, and bassist Haruki, who's been quietly carrying feelings for Akihiko the whole time. It's raw and honest in ways that most romance anime — BL or otherwise — rarely bother to be. The relationships here aren't idealized; they're tangled and sometimes hard to watch, which is exactly what makes them hit so hard. If you liked the emotional weight of Nana's romantic entanglements or the gentle intimacy of Doukyuusei, this fits right in that space. And like Carole & Tuesday, the music isn't just background — it carries real narrative weight. Studio Lerche keeps the animation grounded and expressive, letting the quieter moments breathe. One movie, about 60 minutes, and it earns every single one of them.
