Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Tachikomatic Days
Oshimeter
Synopsis
What happens when tanks start debating the nature of consciousness between missions — that's the whole premise, and it works surprisingly well. Tachikoma na Hibi is a series of short comedy segments bolted onto the end of every episode of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, each running about a minute. The stars are the Tachikomas, Section 9's fleet of spider-like combat vehicles, who spend their downtime asking existential questions, arguing about minor details, and generally behaving like very curious, very enthusiastic children who happen to be weapons of war. The humor comes from the contrast — these are machines built for counter-terrorism operations, and here they are puzzling over what it means to have a soul or bickering about whose experience counts as more authentic. It's lightweight in the best way, a deliberate exhale after the main series' heavier storylines. If you've watched Patlabor: The Mobile Police and appreciated how it humanized its mecha crews, the Tachikomas hit a similar note. Fans of Appleseed's world of AI ethics wrapped in action will also find familiar territory here. Each short is digestible on its own, but they quietly build a running thread about AI individuality that actually ties back into Stand Alone Complex's larger themes. You don't need to overthink it — just let the little blue tanks be charming.
