EPISODE CONTEXT
Arriving past the halfway mark at episode 61 of 100, this installment pivots from the lighter 'Work!! Yōkai Bari-Bari' storyline into a fresh, more ominous conflict centered on the Yōkai Castle. It introduces Tantanbō and several new antagonists, expanding the roster of malevolent yokai Kitarō must contend with and setting the stage for escalating supernatural threats in the episodes ahead. This marks one of the series' periodic tonal shifts toward darker, more action-heavy territory as it builds toward its final act.
