Ganglion
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Every week, Kenji Isobe suits up to fight a superhero — and every week, he loses. That's his job. He works for Ganglion Co. Ltd., a cartoonishly evil corporation with plans like blanketing Tokyo in cedar pollen or literally demolishing Mount Fuji. Kenji suits up, goes out, gets wrecked by the hero Hopeman, files his report, and does it again. Set in early 2000s Tokyo during the dawn of corporate compliance culture, the show treats villainy like any other soul-crushing office gig — complete with unreasonable bosses, thankless assignments, and the quiet desperation of a guy who knows he's on the losing side but still has rent to pay. Studio maf adapts the manga into a 24-episode TV series that leans into workplace comedy as much as action, using the superhero genre as a frame for something that's really about being an underappreciated cog in a machine. The humor is dry and specific, rooted in the absurdity of corporate loyalty when your company's mission statement is world domination. If you liked the satirical edge of Back Street Girls or the way RahXephon played with genre expectations, this hits a similar nerve but from a completely different angle. It's a workplace drama where the workplace happens to involve bodysuits and giant lasers, and honestly that distinction matters less than you'd think.
