📖 SYNOPSIS

Fuku-chan is a classic Japanese comedy anime that originated as a manga series by Ryūichi Yokoyama. The manga first appeared in the Asahi Shimbun in October 1936 and ran until 1971, becoming one of Japan’s longest-running and most influential comic strips. Centered on the mischievous adventures of a five-year-old street boy, Fukuo Fuchida (Fuku Chan), the series follows his playful antics and interactions with friends and neighbors. During World War II, the character was even used in propaganda films, and later, the manga was adapted into an anime television series. This anime, produced by Shin-Ei Animation and directed by Mineo Fuji, aired on TV Asahi from November 2, 1982, to March 27, 1984, spanning 71 episodes of about 25 minutes each. Over the years, Fuku-chan has remained a beloved cultural icon, even serving as the mascot of Waseda University.
