Free! -Dive to the Future-
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Having spent his entire life in the water, Haruka Nanase is finally taking his swimming to the next level at Hidaka University in Tokyo. But on his first day, he bumps into Asahi Shiina — a former teammate from middle school he hasn't spoken to in years. Turns out, their junior high swim team didn't exactly end on good terms, and seeing Asahi again drags up all the complicated feelings Haruka thought he'd left behind. There's also Ikuya Kirishima, another old teammate who's been training overseas and clearly has some unresolved stuff of his own. So now Haruka's trying to compete at a collegiate level while also figuring out how to deal with friendships he kind of let fall apart. This is the third season of Free, and it shifts the setting from high school pools to university competition, which gives the whole thing a more grounded, slightly more mature feel. Kyoto Animation and Animation Do still deliver some of the most gorgeous swimming animation you'll see anywhere — every stroke and turn looks fluid and intentional. If you liked the emotional weight behind the rivalries in Haikyuu or the way Yuri on Ice handles personal stakes alongside athletic competition, this hits a similar chord. It's 12 episodes of old friends reconnecting, competitive tension, and Haruka learning that moving forward sometimes means going back first. If you've been following the series, this is where it all comes together.
