EPISODE CONTEXT
Directly following 'Complicated and Confused,' where Ikebukuro's three-way factional conflict between the Dollars, Yellow Scarves, and Slashers reached its boiling point, 'Selfless Devotion' serves as the emotional and narrative climax of the entire first season. It forces the central trio of Masaomi, Mikado, and Anri into direct confrontation with the consequences of their hidden double lives.
