Synopsis
Out of nowhere, a mystical fox spirit shows up in your life to remind you that a warm bowl of udon can fix almost anything. That's basically the vibe of Dongitsune CMs, a series of animated commercials for Nissin's Donbei Kitsune Udon that have no business being this charming. Each short follows a human character who crosses paths with Dongitsune, a mystical fox tied to the soul of kitsune udon, and the interactions are surprisingly tender for what amounts to an instant noodle ad. There's a blend of Japanese folklore and cozy everyday moments — think supernatural comfort food, literally. The real draw here is the animation quality. These were produced across studios like Studio 4°C, Tatsunoko Production, and Studio Colorido, and you can tell. The visuals punch well above what you'd expect from commercial-length content, with fluid motion and warm color palettes that make you genuinely hungry. The tone sits somewhere between nostalgic and playful, like a miniature slice-of-life condensed into a few minutes. If you liked the quiet folklore elements in Gingitsune, or if you've ever been curious about the crossover energy of things like KFC x Gintama collabs, this scratches a similar itch but with more heart. It's short-form storytelling done right — no filler, just a fox, some noodles, and a surprisingly effective emotional hook wrapped in beautiful animation.
