Synopsis

Finding a missing girl on a distant planet somehow gives the duo every opportunity to cause catastrophic collateral damage at every stop along the way. That's the Dirty Pair in a nutshell. Kei and Yuri are agents for the WWWA — basically an intergalactic problem-solving bureau — and their assignment in this OVA takes them to the forest of Nolandia on the planet Ookbar. The missing girl, Missinie, has apparently wandered into a place where reality gets slippery: illusions, strange creatures, things that don't play by normal rules. Oh, and the local Chief of Security wants nothing to do with them. Bureaucracy has never stopped Kei and Yuri before, and it won't start now. The tone here is that specific 80s sci-fi blend where things are genuinely weird but nobody's too precious about it — the action is snappy, the comedy lands through personality rather than gags, and the whole thing moves with a confidence that a lot of modern action anime loses in exposition. If you grew up watching Bubblegum Crisis or City Hunter and want something in that same pocket, this fits. If you're newer to 80s anime and curious what the era actually felt like before nostalgia softened the edges, Dirty Pair is a clean entry point. At one episode, it's also a zero-commitment way to find out whether Kei and Yuri are your kind of trouble.
