📖 SYNOPSIS
Out of nowhere, a dictionary cracks a guy square in the head after plummeting from above, and he just walks it off — that's how university students Kuriaki Magi and Yaeko Kirihara meet Momoyuki Mogura, a guy who claims he literally cannot die because he's been banned from the afterlife. Naturally, they think he's lost it. But then they start seeing things — spirits of the dead, flickering demon fire, will-o'-wisps that guide souls to whatever comes next. Suddenly Mogura's story doesn't sound so crazy.
This 12-episode TV series from Brain's Base has a vibe that's hard to pin down in the best way. One moment it's genuinely funny — Mogura's matter-of-fact attitude about his own immortality is comedy gold — and the next it's pulling you into eerie, atmospheric mystery territory. The supernatural system built around collecting spirit-infused wisps is surprisingly well thought out for a seinen comedy, and the show knows when to let a scene breathe and when to land a joke.
If you liked the afterlife bureaucracy humor of Hozuki's Coolheadedness or the gods-among-us energy of Noragami, this hits a similar frequency. There's also a Mushishi-like quality to how it treats the supernatural — less as spectacle, more as something quietly woven into everyday life. The tonal balance between comedy and genuine creepiness is what makes it stick with you. It's weird, it's thoughtful, and it doesn't overstay its welcome.
