Dangard Ace
Oshimeter
Synopsis
With resources nearly depleted, humanity's last hope is Promete, a newly discovered tenth planet sitting just out of reach — because a power-hungry warlord named Chancellor Doppler got there first and built an army to keep everyone else out. Every robot Earth sent to challenge him got destroyed. Every one except Danguard Ace. Takuma Ichimonji is the kid trying to pilot it. His father was a celebrated space pilot who became the scapegoat for a catastrophic failed mission to Promete, and Takuma carries that weight into every training session at Jasdam Base. Clearing his father's name and reaching that planet are basically the same goal for him. The setup is classic 70s mecha — redemption arc, giant robot, overwhelming odds — but this one has some interesting texture behind it. Leiji Matsumoto, the guy behind Space Battleship Yamato, is the creative mind here, and his fingerprints show in the grounded emotional beats and the space-opera atmosphere. Danguard Ace itself has a neat mechanical hook: it's actually two separate machines that combine, which adds a layer of coordination drama to the action. If you grew up with Getter Robo or enjoy the era when Gundam was just getting started, this fits right into that same world. It's 56 episodes of slow-burn determination with a solid Shunsuke Kikuchi score underneath it all.
