Dance Dance Danseur
Oshimeter
Synopsis
As a young kid, Junpei Murao fell in love with ballet — then spent years burying it under soccer, martial arts, and every "masculine" hobby he could find. After his father's death, he doubled down on being the tough guy everyone expected him to be. But when a transfer student named Miyako Godai catches him mid-leap and drags him to her mother's ballet studio, that buried passion claws its way back to the surface. There he meets Ruou, Miyako's cousin and a ballet prodigy who's technically brilliant but emotionally closed off — basically Junpei's opposite in every way that matters. What makes this 11-episode TV series work is how honestly it deals with Junpei's shame. Not in a melodramatic way, but in that quiet, gnawing way where you know what you want but can't let yourself want it. The ballet sequences are gorgeous — this is MAPPA, so the animation carries real weight and fluidity — but the emotional core is what sticks. It's a seinen, so it treats the subject matter with more nuance than you might expect from a show about a kid learning to dance. If you liked the artistic passion in Swan or the movement-driven energy of Tribe Cool Crew but wanted something more grounded and introspective, this hits that spot. It's really about a boy figuring out that the bravest thing he can do is stop pretending.
