📖 SYNOPSIS
When it comes to the supernatural, Momo Ayase is completely convinced that ghosts are real but aliens are total nonsense. Her classmate Ken Takakura — who everyone calls Okarun — is the exact opposite: aliens are real, ghosts are fake. After a chance encounter where Momo stands up for him against bullies, they make a bet to prove each other wrong. Momo heads to a UFO hotspot, Okarun visits a haunted tunnel, and naturally, they're both right. Momo gets abducted by actual aliens, which accidentally awakens her psychic powers, while Okarun gets cursed by a vengeful spirit that gives him terrifying transformation abilities. Now they're stuck dealing with both aliens and ghosts, and neither of them is remotely prepared for it.
The dynamic between these two carries the whole show. Their bickering feels genuine, the comedy hits without undercutting the action, and when things get serious, the stakes land. Science SARU went all in on the animation — fight sequences are fluid, creative, and genuinely surprising in how they're staged.
If you liked the cursed-entity battles of Jujutsu Kaisen or the escalating absurdity of Mob Psycho 100, this is in that neighborhood but with its own weird energy. It's a 12-episode TV series from 2024 based on a shounen manga, and it moves fast — no filler, no dragging. The tone sits somewhere between heartfelt and completely unhinged, often in the same scene. Noragami fans will also find a lot to like here with the supernatural odd-couple setup.
