EPISODE CONTEXT
As the series premiere of a 25-episode season, this episode exists entirely to establish the world, characters, and emotional stakes that will carry the entire run. It introduces Chihaya's ambition to form a karuta club at Mizusawa High and plants the seeds of the three-way dynamic between Chihaya, Taichi, and Arata. The next episode, 'The Red That Is,' begins deepening those relationships and pushes the narrative toward the competitive karuta journey ahead.
