Champignon Witch
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Cursed with a poisonous touch and breath that can kill, Luna is a witch living alone in the Black Forest, surrounded by toxic mushrooms, brewing medicines for a city that wants nothing to do with her. See, in this kingdom, white witches are celebrated — black witches like Luna are feared, avoided, treated like a plague. But she keeps showing up anyway, dropping off remedies and picking up books, because what else is she going to do? Then Henri walks into her life. He's the first person in who knows how long to approach her without flinching, and that simple act of not being afraid starts to unravel everything Luna has built around herself — the walls, the routines, the quiet resignation. Champignon no Majo is a 12-episode TV series that moves at a deliberate pace, letting the emotional weight of each interaction actually land. The animation from Typhoon Graphics and Qzil.la nails this eerie, beautiful atmosphere — the forest feels alive and hostile, and the contrast with the city scenes hits harder because of it. Takeshi Hama's soundtrack carries a lot of the heavy lifting in the quieter moments. If you liked the lonely, bittersweet magic of Mahoutsukai no Yome or the gentle ache of Natsume Yuujinchou, this is in that same emotional neighborhood. There's also a Violet Evergarden quality to how it handles someone learning they're allowed to want connection. It's melancholy, it's romantic, and it earns both.
