EPISODE CONTEXT
Episode 256 serves as the transitional bridge between the conclusion of the Zanpakutō Rebellion arc — where Muramasa was defeated in the prior episode — and the beginning of the filler 'Sword Beast' arc, which deals with rogue Zanpakutō spirits still causing problems across Soul Society. This episode establishes the new status quo and introduces the threat that will drive conflicts for the next stretch of filler episodes before Bleach eventually returns to canon material.
