EPISODE CONTEXT
Episode 102 sits in the back half of the anime-original Bount arc, which spans roughly episodes 64-109 and is entirely filler content not found in Tite Kubo's manga. The previous episodes have steadily escalated the Bount threat and forced uneasy alliances among the Soul Reapers, and this installment pushes that conflict closer to its resolution. The arc's conclusion is within sight, after which the series returns to canon material with the Arrancar saga.
