Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Before Roanapur changed everything, Rock was nothing more than a Japanese salaryman. Now he lives in Roanapur, a rotting pit of a city in Thailand where every other person is a killer, a smuggler, or both. The Second Barrage picks up right where the first season left off — Rock's still working with the Lagoon Company, still trying to hold onto some shred of his old moral compass, and still partnered with Revy, who solves most problems by shooting them repeatedly. This time around, the crew runs into a pair of assassins who are genuinely unsettling, and the series leans even harder into the moral gray zones that made the first season interesting. Rock isn't just a fish out of water anymore — he's starting to adapt, and watching where that line moves for him is more compelling than most of the gunfights. Speaking of which, Madhouse went hard on the animation here. The action sequences are weighty and brutal in a way that feels earned rather than gratuitous. The soundtrack keeps everything grounded in this noir-thriller atmosphere across all 12 episodes. If you liked Cowboy Bebop's mix of style and substance but want something meaner, or if Jormungand's arms-dealer world appealed to you, this fits right in that space. It's a seinen series through and through — morally complicated characters doing terrible things in a world where survival is the only currency that matters.
