Synopsis
Two sisters — ages 15 and 9 — are living alone in a tiny apartment, their mother dead and their father vanished under a pile of debt. That's the whole setup — no villain, no dramatic twist incoming, just Kyou working multiple part-time jobs after school while little Asu handles the cooking and cleaning and somehow still gets good grades. They're broke, but they're managing, and watching them figure it out together is genuinely warm without ever feeling saccharine. This is a 10-episode TV series from Toei Animation, and it moves slowly in the best way. Each episode is basically a small slice of their day-to-day lives, with the neighbors slowly becoming part of their world — a gruff landlord who's softer than he lets on, an eccentric woman down the hall, a guy chasing his music dreams. Nobody saves them. They just have people around who quietly care. If you liked Aishiteruze Baby for its tender portrayal of a kid being raised without parents, or Minami-ke for its low-stakes sisterly warmth, this sits comfortably in that space. It's closer to Aishiteruze Baby emotionally, though — there's real weight underneath the gentle tone. The art is simple, the pacing is unhurried, and the show never tries to be more than it is. Sometimes that's exactly what you want.
