After a troubled past, a socially awkward pitcher and a demanding catcher must overcome their personal issues to forge a winning baseball battery and help their team succeed.

📖 SYNOPSIS

By the time middle school baseball is over, Ren Mihashi has been so thoroughly broken by it that he can barely make eye contact with people. His old teammates bullied him, blamed him for every loss, and by graduation he's convinced he's the worst player alive. He enrolls at Nishiura High specifically to never touch a baseball again — and then immediately gets roped into their brand-new team. What makes this 25-episode TV series work is that Mihashi's anxiety isn't played for laughs or resolved in two episodes. It's the core of the show. His catcher, Abe, is this intense, strategy-obsessed guy who realizes Mihashi actually has real talent buried under all that self-doubt, and watching their dynamic develop is genuinely compelling. Coach Momoe rounds out the picture with smart, grounded leadership. The baseball itself is surprisingly detailed — A-1 Pictures adapted this seinen manga with real attention to pitch selection, batting psychology, and game-level tactics. It's not just "believe in yourself and throw harder." Every at-bat has weight because you understand the thinking behind it. The team-building arc hits different when you've seen how fragile Mihashi is and how deliberately his teammates learn to support him. If you liked the character depth in Cross Game or the strategic intensity of Ace of Diamond, this scratches a similar itch but leans harder into the psychological side. Fans of Yowamushi Pedal's underdog team energy will find a lot to connect with here too.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You love realistic baseball strategy—pitch selection, sign-stealing, and batter analysis get serious screen time
An anxious, self-doubting protagonist slowly building confidence over 25 episodes sounds rewarding to you
Team-building stories hit hard—Nishiura's roster starts from scratch with genuine underdog energy
You want sports anime that digs into the psychology of competition, not just flashy power moves

❌ SKIP IF...

Mihashi's constant crying and timid personality will test your patience across the full season
Single matches stretching over multiple episodes feels like a slog—you'd rather have quick games
You expect hype-driven action like Kuroko-style plays—this is grounded and deliberately low-key
