Banner of the Stars II
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Assigned as Territorial Ambassador to a newly conquered planet, Abh princess Lafiel brings ice-cold composure and a surprisingly dry sense of humor to her new post. Sounds like a diplomatic stepping stone — until she and Jinto arrive and realize what they've inherited. Lobnas II wasn't just any planet under the United Mankind. It was a prison world, and there are over a million inmates still living there, split across three separate sectors with very different populations and very different ideas about what happens now that their old wardens are gone. The situation is already tense before Lafiel and Jinto even unpack. This 10-episode OVA series leans harder into political and moral weight than the previous entries. The action is still there, but the central conflict forces both characters into genuinely uncomfortable territory — decisions where no option is clean. What keeps it grounded is the relationship between Lafiel and Jinto, which continues to develop in ways that feel earned rather than rushed. Their dynamic is the emotional core of the whole franchise. If you enjoyed the slow-burn political complexity of Legend of the Galactic Heroes or wanted something like Mobile Suit Gundam but with more focus on two specific characters navigating impossible situations, this fits that space. It's a short watch, but it doesn't waste the runtime. Pick up Banner of the Stars I first if you haven't — this one assumes you already care about these two.
