Synopsis

As a child stargazing one night, Kasumi Toyama heard something she calls the 'Star Beat' — this sparkling, overwhelming feeling she's been chasing ever since. Now she's a first-year at Hanasakigawa Girls' High School, trying every club and hobby to recapture that sensation, and nothing clicks. Then she stumbles into her classmate Arisa's family pawnshop and finds a star-shaped guitar covered in glittery stickers, and something just locks into place. After catching a live show at a local venue called Space, Kasumi decides she needs to start a band. The rest of this 13-episode TV series follows her pulling together four reluctant classmates — Arisa, Tae, Rimi, and Sāya — into what becomes Poppin'Party. The vibe here is pure youthful energy, that specific feeling of doing something for the first time and not really knowing what you're doing but caring so much it doesn't matter. If you liked K-On! for the friendship-first approach to music, or Love Live! for the underdog dream-chasing, this hits a similar sweet spot while carving out its own identity. One thing worth knowing: BanG Dream is part of a bigger multimedia project, so the concert scenes use some 3D CGI to mirror the real-life performances the voice actresses do, which gives the live moments a different texture than most music anime. It's warm, earnest, and genuinely charming without trying too hard.

Quick Takes

This episode is lowkey but super engaging. The vibes feel natural, not forced, and the random mini performance is actually cute and meaningful. Animation is simple but expressive, small looks and pauses say a lot. It’s chill, but it works.
